As well as the now famous 17th century
Market Halle,
Sainte Sevère has a number of other interesting historic features, one of
which is the 18th century Chateau and 13th century ruined tower overlooking the
river Indre that passes through the town. The 16th century calvaire (stone cross) which is
also located in the marketplace.
The entrance to the marketplace is the original village gateway erected in the
15th century, it is unusual in that it has twin archways a narrow one for foot traffic,
and a wider archway for coaches.

Sainte Severe Church
|
When the village church was built it was considered by many at the time to be too large
and too grand for the area, but it is now fair to say that the region has grown accordingly.
Throughout the town, you will find houses dating as far back as the 15th century, many of
which apparently are unchanged since then!
A more recent addition is locally known as 'Le Petit Chateau', a
contemporary house built in the style of the chateaux of the region.
