La Chatre is an old Gallo-Roman town built on a hill. The vestiges of the Roman era can be seen in the old Roman bridge “Pont aux Laies” with the river Indre flowing beneath.
Taking a walk through the lanes in the centre, you will see many traditional shops and some lovely medieval architecture.
You can rest awhile in one of the many cafes and enjoy the atmosphere.

Saturday morning is market day in La Chatre. The square becomes a very busy place filled with stalls and humming with people.
The shopping area of the town is set in the old quarter, with numerous cobblestone alleyways between the ancient buildings
Down by the river Indre, you will find the museum dedicated to the prolific romantic novelist George Sands.
La Chatre also has an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, a cinema and the Amazon night club.
