Not in Centre but over the border in “La Creuse“. This “flowery” town has a very popular and lively market on a Thursday.
It boasts a 15th century chateau, once a residence of the romantic novelist George Sand.
It houses a wonderful collection of tapestries, many from Aubusson. The famous set of six “Lady and the Unicorn” tapestries were discovered here by George Sand.
Other places in the town worth a visit are the 15th century church of Ste. Anne and the rural museum exhibiting a range of locally produced and imported agricultural machinery.

Les Pierres Jaumatres
|
The town square is a beautiful, peaceful area with a number of bars and cafes, all with outdoor seating. Perfect for whiling away a lazy afternoon.
A short distance out of the town are Les Pierres Jaumatres. This is an unusual site where a walk through woodland brings you out to a formation of huge stones, formed by volcanic eruption. Some precariously positioned.
A true wonder of nature.
